Our work with Teach For America began in 2009 when we joined together with a group of Tulsa community leaders to bring Teach For America to Tulsa. Two years later, the region expanded to include the state capital, Oklahoma City, allowing it to participate in exciting collaborative efforts for change in two of the state’s major metropolitan areas. Just three years since its founding, Teach For America – Oklahoma has grown from 75 teachers to a corps of over 300.

In June 2012, Tulsa hosted one of the esteemed Teach For America Summer Institutes, an intensive five-week training program that prepares corps members for their teaching experience. The arrival of 650 newly recruited teachers and 120 national staff members allowed Tulsa Public Schools was able to overhaul its summer school program and quadruple its student enrollment to 5,300 students.

Through the Schusterman Foundation-Israel, we also support Teach First Israel, which aims to expand educational opportunity in Israel for children from the social and geographic periphery. There are currently 150 participants in the first and second cohorts teaching middle and high-school. Teach First Israel will bring in an additional 120 teachers for the third cohort.

Both Teach For America and Teach First Israel are part of Teach For All, a global network of independent social enterprises that are working to expand educational opportunity in their nations by enlisting their most promising future leaders in the effort. Teach For All’s mission is to expand educational opportunity internationally by increasing and accelerating the impact of these independent social enterprises.

Teach For All, which has partners in 25 countries, was launched in September 2007 to assist social entrepreneurs around the world who were inspired by the Teach For America and Teach First model and wanted to adapt it in their respective countries.
