Since its inception in December 1999, Taglit-Birthright Israel has sent nearly 300,000 Jewish young adults to Israel. Participants come from 60 countries, all 50 U.S. states and Canadian provinces, and from nearly 1,000 North American colleges and universities.
The ten days of a Taglit-Birthright Israel trip are a journey in both Jewish history and in a contemporary Jewish state, accompanied by Israeli peers (“the mifgash”) who join the trips as colleagues and friends. The Taglit-Birthright Israel educational journey is committed to a culture of open discussion and dialogue about all issues: identity, politics, religion and Jewish living.
Ultimately, Taglit-Birthright Israel aims to ensure the continuity of the Jewish people by strengthening each participant’s Jewish identity; building an understanding, a friendship and a lasting bond with the land and people of Israel; and reinforcing the solidarity of the Jewish people worldwide.
