50 LOCAL NONPROFITS JOIN FORCES WITH NETWORK FOR GOOD TO UNLEASH GENEROSITY IN TULSA
TULSA, OK – December 13, 2011 – The Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation announced today the launch of a new program that will enable 50 local nonprofits to benefit from Tulsa’s spirit of kindness during the giving season. Unleash Generosity Tulsa will empower these organizations to use online technology to cultivate donor relationships, increase donations and receive streamlined financial and sponsorship support.
“We believe this state-of-the-art fundraising tool will help unleash Tulsa’s incredibly generous giving spirit in new ways just in time for the holidays,” said Sanford R. Cardin, President of the Schusterman Family Foundation. “This program empowers nonprofits to use emerging technologies to cultivate donor relationships and increase fundraising potential. In recent years, we have witnessed tremendous growth in the number of charitable contributions being made via computers, tablets and smartphones all across the country. Through our partnership with Network for Good, we are trying to help local nonprofits experience similar growth in online giving.”
As part of the program, the Schusterman Family Foundation awarded 50 nonprofits dedicated to strengthening the Tulsa community a one-year subscription to Network for Good. Founded by AOL, Yahoo and Cisco, Network for Good is an online donation and volunteer system that allows people to support their favorite nonprofit organizations with just a few easy clicks of a mouse.
“Online donations are simply easier for the public and are a solid way to streamline our processes for financial oversight,” said Lucky Lamons, CEO of Foundation for Tulsa Schools, one of the 50 recipient organizations. “Tools such as this will enable our organization, and many others, to focus more on our mission and giving back to the Tulsa community.”
Since its founding in 2001, Network for Good has disbursed more than $575 million in donations to more than 60,000 charities. It allows nonprofit organizations to email supporters using a platform called EmailNow, process donations and patron sponsorships with DonateNow and receive online fundraising training and support.
“We are excited to be a part of Unleashing Generosity Tulsa and to partner with the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation to help Tulsa nonprofits raise awareness and much needed support this giving season,” said Bill Strathmann, CEO of Network for Good. “Through this initiative we’ll give people a quick, safe and secure way to donate to causes they care about in their own back yard.”
The Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma has been using Network for Good for nearly two years to raise money for purchasing food and supporting the Food for Kids Backpack Program.
“We have had remarkable success using Network for Good to engage donors and continue ongoing support for our programs,” said Sara Waggoner, Executive Director of the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. “Network for Good has allowed us to engage with donors in ways we never imagined.”
Tracey Lyall, Executive Director of Domestic Violence Intervention Services, one of the 50 recipient organizations, said, “It was a privilege when the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation invited Domestic Violence Intervention Services to be a part of Unleashing Generosity Tulsa. This tool lets us take advantage of Network for Good’s significant training opportunities and offers the possibility to expand what we already have in place.”
“Nonprofit organizations generally see an increase in donations during this time of year,” Cardin said. “We hope this program will make it easier this holiday season than ever before for Tulsans to demonstrate their generosity and support many of the worthwhile organizations that serve our community.”
