Big Brothers Big Sisters of Israel
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Israel was established in 2003 as an accredited organization of the BBBS International umbrella organization that is active in fourteen countries around the world. Their adult volunteers serve as Big Brothers and Big Sisters who accompany children over time, helping them to deal with the challenges of life through the creation of a meaningful relationship that enhances a child's development. Based upon methodology that has existed in the USA since 1904, BBBS invests a great deal of resources in the recruiting, screening and matching of suitable volunteers for each child. BBBS's Social Workers provide supervision, training, support and individual guidance for each volunteer. In parallel to individual mentoring, BBBS offers group training meetings for volunteers, as well as organized group events for volunteers and children such as Fun Days and activities during the holidays. Every year, BBBS served hundreds of children and teens nationwide through the dedicated care of adult volunteer mentors who were trained in BBBS's volunteer training program. BBBS staff creates a customized plan for every child according to his or her needs. Furthermore, the connection established between the volunteer and the child often empowers the parents and generally strengthens the relationship between the parents and their children. The average length of a relationship is about three years. They accompany mentoring relationships that last even longer periods of time and they see the positive results every day from anew. In recent years, Little Brothers and Sisters who are now adults are requesting to mentor a child in order to create a special relationship such as the one that they benefitted from.
