Job Description

UpStart is seeking an Events Manager to execute on UpStart’s event strategy, including planning of our growing annual national gathering – The Collaboratory. We are looking for someone who has a passion for creating dynamic and engaging events – and impeccable skill in executing them successfully.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications, the Events Manager will be part of a dynamic and growing team charting UpStart’s next phase and amplifying the inspiring work of our field. The Events Manager will also serve as a critical partner in our efforts to scale The Collaboratory’s impact.

Key Responsibilities:

The Collaboratory (60%)

  • Serve as a key member of The Collaboratory strategy development team.
  • Manage event registration process for a 375 person event, including web presence and event management app, as well as review, selection, and communication with registrants.
  • Identify, liaise with, and coordinate venue and all vendors (catering, a/v, etc.)
  • Identify and execute on opportunities to enhance participants’ experience and to activate the UpStart/Collaboratory brand.
  • Coordinate the logistics and experience design of all related events.
  • Coordinate all signage, materials, and day-of needs.
  • Coordinate communication, contracting, and invoicing with all presenters and vendors.
  • Oversee onsite event management, including coordination of the venue, vendors, and staff.
  • Support the development and implementation of sponsorship strategies.
  • Create templates and systems to ensure efficiency, consistency, and scalability of The Collaboratory.

General events (40%)

  • Support the design, testing, and implementation of an events strategy to activate UpStart’s brand and to develop our pipeline of participants and funders.
  • Manage all logistical and experience design needs for UpStart’s highest leverage events, as determined by the events strategy.
  • Serve as an in-house consultant to the program, development, and field-building teams to ensure that all UpStart events are brand and strategy-aligned.
  • Identify and execute on opportunities to partner with other organizations’ events.
  • Create templates, guidelines, and systems to ensure efficiency, consistency, and brand-alignment of all UpStart events.

Skills and Experience:

  • 4-5 years of relevant event planning and/or project management experience.
  • Familiarity with Jewish community and culture.
  • Experience managing and coordinating multiple projects, as well as navigating workflows that cross departments and geographies.
  • Strong communication and people skills, including the ability to hold people accountable to deadlines.
  • Demonstrated skill in activating an organization’s brand at events.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience negotiating contracts and vendor relationships.
  • Ability to read and manage event budgets.
  • Technologically savvy. Familiarity with event management platforms a plus.

This is a full-time position. Bay Area preferred.
