Hoshen is a nationwide, non-profit volunteer organization whose purpose is to combat stereotypes regarding sexual orientation and gender identity across Israel. They are an information and education center of the LGBT community in Israel. Founded in 2004, the organization specializes in raising awareness and sensitivity training, and since 2013 has been conducting upwards of some 1,000 events a yearâ mostly in schools, where its activities reach some 40,000 students annually.ÊOver 250 active volunteers work with Hoshen to achieve this goal, with a growing membership from all across Israel in recent years. Hoshen also works to sensitize the wide range of professionals and service-providers whose work brings them into contact with LGBT Israelis: high school teachers, school psychologists, university faculty, police and border guard corps officers, soldiers, army cadets and officers, medical staff, social workers and guidance counselors.Hoshen has partnerships with dozens of institutions, from university departments to the IDF, as well as hundreds of schools across the country. Hoshen is officially recognized by the Educational Psychological Authority of the Ministry of Education, the only LGBT organization with whom the Ministry works in any formal capacity.
