DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Position Overview

Join a team of dedicated staff at an exceptional time, as Sefaria implements a new, comprehensive strategic plan.

We are searching for a dynamic yet focused Development Manager to create and implement a community-based fundraising strategy while also spearheading our foundation fundraising efforts. The Development Manager will be instrumental in supporting Sefaria’s goal to grow its individual donor base from $250k annually to $1M annually. This team member will be supervised by Sefaria’s Chief Operating Officer.

Responsibilities

The Sefaria Development Manager will be responsible for the following areas of organizational activity:

Foundation Management

  • Oversee the grant cycle — from proposals and reports to check-in meetings and special requests.
  • Write grant proposal narratives, letters of inquiry, reports and supporting documents.
  • Prepare grant budgets in collaboration with the COO.
  • Help identify, research and cultivate new and lapsed foundation donors.

Community-Based Fundraising

  • Grow Sefaria’s individual donor base from $250k annually to $1M annually by 2021.
    • Develop a multi-year strategy with quarterly and annual benchmarks
    • Develop appropriate cultivation and solicitation strategies for donors and prospects
    • Design and write multi-channel (email, social) campaigns
    • Research and identify potential new major supporters
  • Run and further develop the monthly giving program.
  • Manage communications with the supporter base.
  • Develop and implement other creative initiatives to raise revenue.

General Fundraising and Administrative

  • In coordination with the Management team, develop and execute an annual fundraising plan.
  • Collaborate on budgeting as it relates to fundraising, as well as financial tracking, taxes and annual audit.
  • Develop and maintain a fundraising tracking system to support cash flow projections and long-term financial decision-making.
  • Maintain all donor records and process tax acknowledgment letters for individual supporters.
  • Manage future transition to a new CRM.
  • Assist with fundraising events and work related to the Board of Directors as needed.

Education & Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 4 years of previous experience in related positions.
  • Proven experience in working with a portfolio of $2 million, or higher.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining robust relationships with foundation contacts and individual donors.
  • Excellent writer and editor with the ability to quickly produce compelling content to motivate donors to give.
  • Background in CRMs.
  • The ability to multitask and work across teams in a fast paced environment is essential.
  • Hyper organized with an eye for detail.

Position Location

We are seeking a US-based candidate. Sefaria has a presence in New York, Chicago, Boston and the Bay Area. Employees are expected to keep standard office hours and will have some flexibility in terms of physical work location. The Development Manager will travel from time to time to meet with foundations and donors and to attend gatherings.
