WHAT WE DO
M²: The Institute for Experiential Jewish Education nurtures and enhances the development of individual and communal Jewish identity and agency by providing educators and organizations around the world with services grounded in academic theories and Jewish thought, customized educational approaches, cutting-edge methodologies and intentional peer engagement.

M² represents Machshava and Ma’aseh – Intention and Action – two values whose interplay is at the core of Jewish life. At M² we believe that these values are the foundations of experiential Jewish education. M² is also Melechet Machshevet – Deliberate Craft – an idea that guided the building of the Mishkan – the Tabernacle – Judaism’s greatest act and expression of experiential Jewish education.

M² SENIOR EDUCATORS COHORT
The M² Senior Educators Cohort (SEC) is an international 10-month program providing 40 outstanding educators with a holistic approach towards the theory and practice of experiential Jewish education.

Over the course of three, five-day convenings, participants gain exposure to signature educational pedagogies, multi-disciplinary perspectives and cutting-edge methods that enable them to articulate, refine and sharpen their practice as experiential Jewish education, all in an immersive cohort environment.

SEC employs a vast range of educational styles, so that participants are constantly challenged by engaging in a range of cognitive, emotional and tactile learning experiences, led by a diverse faculty with various areas of expertise.

Utilizing modalities deeply rooted in experiential education theory, SEC participants are provided with opportunities to continuously experiment with their learnings, and engage in processes that enable them to make personal meaning and reach new found understandings as a result,

The M2 Senior Educators Cohort is generously supported by the Maimonides Fund.

SEC COMPONENTS
SEC is a 3-part immersive cohort experience for senior-level educators, facilitated by cross-disciplinary experts and faculty, and supported through deliberate dedicated and personalized mentorship.

The Foundations of Experiential Jewish Education: This convening exposes participants to cutting edge frameworks and theories that motivate and ignite the field of experiential Jewish education. Focusing on narrative theory, conflict pedagogy and values education, this convening features expertise from the fields of scriptwriting, psychotherapy and theater improvisation.

Teaching Experientially: Through an intensive experimentation process, this convening highlights the choreographic principles that illuminate experiential Jewish education and bring experiences to life. In this convening, participants gain skills in methodologies related to sensory education and spatial design, stimulation of multiple intelligences and the typology of activities.

Learning from Experience: By investigating key constructs in group formation, identity development, and the process of memory formation, this convening explores the critical role that educators play in facilitating the experiential learning cycle, and its ultimate impact on the learner-centered evolvement of personal Jewish agency.

THE SEC EXPERIENCE
SEC’s bold vision and rigorous approach to the practice of experiential Jewish education includes the following:

  • SELF-DEVELOPMENT: At SEC, while paired with seasoned mentors, educators are encouraged to explore how their talent, passion and values align with their educational vision and intersect with their day-to-day practice, and engage in work dedicated to their self-development.
  • WORKPLACE INTEGRATION: Over the course of the program, SEC offers educators workplace integration coaching, enabling them to frame their learnings so they are context-specific and directly applicable to their day to day practice.
  • COHORT EXPERIENCE: Utilizing and modeling innovative facilitation strategies, SEC places a strong emphasis on the cohort experience, encouraging participants to collaborate with one another and cultivate peer driven communities.

SEC COMMUNITY
M² nurtures a robust community of graduates, offering them ongoing support and career guidance. Additionally, graduates are often invited to contribute to additional M² ventures – as thought partners, faculty and facilitators.

SEC PROGRAM DATES
As a requirement of the program, SEC meets three times over a 10-month period to participate, participating and learning in intense, immersive convenings.

  • WASHINGTON, DC, June 3 – 7, 2018: The Foundations of Experiential Jewish Education
  • SAN DIEGO, November 11 – 15, 2018: Teaching Experientially
  • NEW YORK, March 3 – 7, 2019: Learning from Experience

SEC ELIGIBILTY & APPLICATION
M² operates one Senior Educators Cohort each year.

In order to have your application considered please submit it by Friday, February 16, 2018.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Five years of relevant field experience. Eight years of experience is preferred.If you have less than five years of experience and believe you should be considered for the program, please provide your reasoning in your application invitation request.
  • Full-time employment as an experiential Jewish educator during the program period.
  • Undergraduate degree.

When invited to apply, applicants will be asked to submit an application form, references and an updated resume.
