Youth and Young Adult Engagement Coordinator

The Joint (Australia) is the Australian branch of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee and is seeking a part-time self-motivated Youth and Young Adult Engagement Coordinator to spearhead engagement opportunities for young Jewish people in The Joint’s global humanitarian work.

This part-time position offering flexible working arrangements.

WHAT WILL YOU DO AS A YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULT ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR?
Reporting to the director of The Joint Australia, the Youth and Young Adult Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for devising and implementing an outreach strategy to engage schools and young Jewish adults aged 18-40 in The Joint’s activities in Australia including: recruiting for volunteer service programs abroad (Entwine program), co-ordinating alumni activity for returning ‘Entwiners’, organising giving circles, speakers, events and other innovative outreach and fundraising efforts.

In particular:

  • Build and maintaining a large database of young Jewish professionals across Australia with a focus on Sydney and Melbourne
  • Devise and implement a social media strategy to reach this demographic with a view towards promoting Entwine missions and other engagement avenues for young Jewish adults
  • Coordinate alumni activity for returning Entwiners and build a strong and active alumni network in Australia
  • Create and coordinate other engagement opportunities for young adults more broadly in The Joint Australia’s efforts
  • Research and initiate beneficial partnerships with affinity organisations in Sydney and Melbourne
  • Plan and manage events in Australia that engage young adults in supporting The Joint’s activities around the world
  • Work with Jewish day schools and other school-age programs to promote understanding of The Joint’s work and include relevant content in various formal and informal Jewish education curricula
  • Become an expert on JDC’s work
  • Other related duties as assigned

WHAT DOES THE IDEAL YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULT ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR LOOK LIKE?
The ideal candidate will be an organised, self-starter and possess excellent communication skills that enable him/her to communicate effectively and easily via a variety of media including phone, in –person, email and social media. He/she will be detail oriented and will have some experience working in the Jewish communal space and enjoy a large personal and professional network. A good understanding of the various social media platforms is also important.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU NEED TO BE OUR YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULT ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR?

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-initiative and the ability to work in a satellite capacity
  • Marketing and branding acumen (appropriate for this young adult demographic)
  • Flexible university or work schedule
  • Strong personal or professional network (preferably across both Sydney and Melbourne)
  • The ability to take instruction from senior professionals in Australia and the global entity headquartered in New York and Jerusalem

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working with teens and/or young adult initiatives in Sydney and/or Melbourne
  • Proven track record in launching a new initiative
  • Any previous experience with The Joint or with Entwine
  • Passion for humanitarian work and/or global Jewish service

WHAT ARE THE COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS FOR A YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULT ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR?

  • This a Part-Time (10 hrs per week), position paid monthly.
  • We offer a highly competitive benefits and compensation package, including but not limited to:
    • $35 per hour plus superannuation contributions
    • Vacation days, sick and personal days and Jewish and national holidays
    • Flexible working arrangements
