Aleksander is from Warsaw, Poland. He grew up unaware of his family's Jewish roots, only discovering his heritage when on the brink of adulthood. Following a couple years of heavy engagement in any and all Jewish experiences, he took a step back and focused on his career, working in media for Gazeta Wyborcza (the number one opinion-making journal in Poland), Discovery, and Kino Polska (part of SPI International) in their editorial and marketing departments. It was not until participating in Birthright and experiencing the inclusivity of Hillel Warsaw's community that he reengaged with his Jewish identity. From then, it only took a year for him to make further changes and accept a position at Hillel, where he has been in charge of programming since 2019.
Beyond pandemic-induced ennui, 2021 brought a myriad of professional development opportunities, two of which brought Aleksander closer to the ROI community: mentoring sessions with ROI member Victor Sorenssen and the Leading From Within program facilitated by Rebecca Youngerman. In November 2021, Aleksander was promoted to assistant director and continues to serve young Jewish adults in Warsaw and Poland, along with the amazing team led by Magda Dorosz. Passionate about food (his Jewish culinary bookshelf is becoming an entity of its own), film, and TV, Aleksander loves travelling and jam-packed vacation schedules that ensure that he visits every must-see attraction. In private, he leads a quiet life with his partner Slava (Jewish summer camp sweethearts!) and their animal companions: Maca the dog and cats Kicia and Ida.
