Avi was born in Pardes Hanna, Israel, and is the seventh child (out of 11) in a Modern Orthodox family with American roots. After graduating Midrashiat Noam high school and learning at yeshiva for two years he joined the IDF and served in an elite combat unit for three years. Avi studied psychology and Middle Eastern studies at Bar Ilan University. While at university Avi worked in a children’s crisis center. He also completed a teaching certificate and went on to receive an M.A. in clinical psychology from Bar Ilan. Today Avi lives in Tel Aviv and works as a psychologist in two Youth Aliyah villages, as well as coordinating courses for the Haruv Institute for Haredi therapists and teaching part time.
