Avishay is the director and co-founder of the Secular Yeshiva in Jerusalem. The Secular Yeshiva leads educational and cultural programs for young adults who are curious about and would like to re-connect with their Jewish identity through learning, meeting the other, community activities, and the unique atmosphere that Jerusalem offers. Avishay has been leading the Yeshiva’s large scale events in recent years, including "Patishim Ba-Laila" (Independence Day celebration), "Mishte Purim" (Purim fest), a monthly "Hafla" event, and many more. Following his IDF service as an officer in the Golani infantry brigade and an instructor in the IDF officers' school, Avishay began studying for his undergraduate degree. After graduating, he became a home room teacher at Rene Kassin High School. Avishay holds a B.A. in general and comparative literature and Bible studies from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and is a graduate of Kerem Institute for teacher training. Born and raised in Karkur, Avishay studied at Makor Chaim Yeshiva Tichonit and graduated from Shalom Hartman High School. Avishay, an educator at heart, lives in Jerusalem with wife Ayala and three wonderful children: No'am 8, Dafna 6, and Shachar 2.
