Boaz is a third generation Tel Avivi and seventh generation Sabra. As a rooted Israeli, with family living also in New York and Antwerp, Boaz is deeply connected to both Hebrew and Diaspora Jewish cultures, expressed through his consumption of music, performing arts, and film. A passion he developed and practiced as a student at the Tel Aviv School of the Arts. Boaz served in the IDF for eight years, including as company commander during the Second Intifada and the Second Lebanon War. He has continued to advance in the IDF reserves, and recently concluded a term as battalion commander. Under his command his unit was twice awarded for excellence in combat by the President of Israel. Boaz has a B.A. in history from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and a M.A. in international affairs from Columbia University in New York. He returned to Israel in 2011, just as the social justice movement erupted and he soon took on a leading role in its organization. In keeping with this direction, Boaz was the founding executive director of the Social Guard, a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring transparency and civic engagement in the Knesset. Boaz is the founder of The Whistle, the only fact-checking organization in Israel that fights political misinformation and “fake news.”
