Director of Hillel in Saint Petersburg, Hillel Russia
Irina has been the director of Hillel Saint Petersburg since 2009. She grew up in an assimilated Russian family and only discovered that she was Jewish at the age of 16, at which point she began to be active in the Jewish community. Irina graduated from the Lehava leadership training course in 2009 and then went on to study informal Jewish education at the Melamedia Institute. She has worked for Hillel for many years and been actively involved active with the local Jewish community. Hillel Saint Petersburg is known for its outstanding and creative projects and events, such as the Jewish Beauty contest, Hillel Awards, a Jewish stand-up comedy contest, and the Oy Vey city festival of Jewish culture. All these events are attended by hundreds of young Jews, receive positive media support, and attract significant donations and a strong interest both on the part of the Jewish community in Saint Petersburg and outside it. In 2013 Irina, together with her friends, launched the Jewerly Hills project for 25-45 year olds, which brought together successful young Jews in the community. She was awarded the Exemplar of Exellence Award by Hillel International in 2016. Irina is married and the mother of Mark, an adorable two-year-old.
