Jenna Benn Shersher
Jenna is a civil rights advocate, world traveler, and tiny twister who dreams big. In December 2010, Jenna was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder called Grey Zone Lymphoma which has impacted less than 300 people worldwide. Instead of surrendering to cancer, she was determined to find meaning in her suffering. In the course of her fight, Jenna figured out creative ways to leverage social media to process her experience and in turn create a community of "tiny twisters" that became invested in her fight. In the course of a year, Jenna battled cancer and started a nonprofit called Twist Out Cancer that provides psychosocial support to individuals touched by cancer through creative arts programming. Since Twist Out Cancer's inception in 2011, the nonprofit has expanded to include cities - Chicago, Toronto, Philadelphia, Austin, Detroit, Tel Aviv and Ann Arbor. TOC has impacted over 140,000 people through its online platform and programming in the community. Their signature program Brushes with Cancer strategically matches artists with individuals touched by cancer to create unique pieces of artwork reflective of their journey with the disease. Prior to Jenna's work with TOC she served as the chief of staff at the Anti-Defamation League in the Chicago/Upper Midwest region for nearly a decade. During her tenure, she was responsible for overseeing young leadership development, press, and social media, and marketing. Jenna lives in Bryn Mawr, PA with her husband David and their sassy nearly six month old Noa Pearl. They are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their baby girl in Spring of 2021.
