Jonathan Gutstadt produced the CD HipHopShabbat, a combination of traditional Shabbat prayers and hip-hop in 2004. Since then, Jonathan has brought his unique "prayerformance" to Jewish communities in California and beyond, leading Shabbat prayer services to the beats of hip-hop and reggae. He also facilitates Jewish hip-hop workshops for Jewish day schools and summer camps. The idea behind the HipHopShabbat project is that there's no better way to learn about prayers than listening to music. This project has engaged thousands of people with Hebrew prayer, whether they are Jewish or not. Jonathan lives in Reno, Nevada and when he's not making music, he's developing web sites and practicing massage therapy.
