Jon Marker had the privilege of being brought up in a community coined a “garden for growing people” by its founder, James Rouse. Through this experience, Jon grew to understand and appreciate the strengths of a community that dedicates itself to the success of its youth and to the pursuit of for all its residents. Jon has studied communities around the world, from the impoverished centers of Buenos Aires and Bangalore to the developing, high-technology sectors of Tel Aviv and Beijing. While living in these cities, Jon observed firsthand the unique and common challenges that each face.
Jon was recently appointed Program Officer of the Jim Joseph Foundation, based in San Francisco. Previously, Jon worked in Washington, D.C. as the Manager of District and School Partnerships with Teach For America. Through his work, Jon is able to collaborate with educators, principals, district leaders and elected officials to ensure that every child has the opportunity to attain an excellent education.
