Lea’s full name is Lea Agnes Cecilie, because her parents could not decide on only one name for her. The diversity of her name also reflects the diversity of her multicultural background. She is 27 years old, born in Denmark, to a family of Danish, Polish, Indian, and Iraqi origin. She grew up in a economically and socially diverse neighborhood, which some considered a ghetto, where her mother did not want Lea wearing a Star of David necklace out of concern that she would be attacked. So Lea grew up with fear of other people wanted to hurt her if she did not hide her Jewish identity. In sixth grade she met her first Muslim friend, who ended up helping Lea get over her fear. They always stood together when the tolerance for religious acceptance were at a low point. It was not always easy to be part of a religious minority in a secular school. In eigth grade it became too much, and she moved to the Jewish school. Here she felt grounded and was able to further explore her Jewish identity. Two and a half years later, Copenhagen was hit by its first terror attack in 30 years. A young Muslim shot and killed one of the Jewish guards outside the synagogue. That was the moment Lea’s life turned upside down and she became determined to work for the preservation of minority rights within a majority society. She combined this passion for her second passion, gastronomy, and has used both to further coexistence between all.
