Lee He was born in 1978 in Jerusalem, Israel, where she grew up and lives until today. Upon graduating from Bezalel Academy, Lee He chose to base her career in Jerusalem. After being awarded a studio at the Artists’ Studio, she initiated meetings between artists, and eventually established Manofim: Jerusalem Contemporary Art Festival. Manofim is a week-long festival celebrating the vibrant contemporary art of Jerusalem. As the founder and co-manager, Lee He aims to present the broad and diverse artistic creations happening in the city and encourage collaboration between artists and art institutions. Thousands of visitors attend the festival each year - all free of charge. Lee He is responsible for the ongoing development of Manofim: steering the artistic program; curating exhibitions in alternative spaces; locating new partners; spotting and cultivating Jerusalemite artists and curators; generating collaborations; administration; and fundraising. Lee He is also the director of the Art Cube Artists’ Studios. The Artists’ Studios is a center for contemporary culture that offers an enriching working environment for the visual artists. As the organisation director, Lee He designs the creative program which seeks to prepare the artists to work independently and assist them to base their career in Jerusalem. Moreover, she is one of the founders of Hanina - a collaborative self-run artists group established to support emerging and senior artists. Lee He’s choice to take action and influence the future of her surroundings, together with her determination and vision, have helped her recruit people to joint efforts on several initiatives.
