Deputy Principal, Director of Jewish Studies and Ivrit, Mount Scopus Memorial College
Matti grew up in Melbourne, Sydney, and Jerusalem and has been an informal Jewish educator for over a decade. Throughout his time at university, Matti was also heavily involved in various communal organizations, including being a counselor and coordinator of Bnei Akiva Melbourne, a protector in the Community Security Group and an educator with United Jewish Education Board. He also spent time learning in various yeshivot in Israel and volunteered to serve in the IDF in 2006 as a combat infantry soldier. After working as a commercial lawyer (and volunteering at legal clinics assisting refugees), Matti decided on a career change and was lucky enough to land his dream job as a Jewish studies teacher and informal Jewish educator at Mount Scopus Memorial College where he has taught since 2011. Matti completed his LLB, a B.A. in Jewish history and graduate diploma in education at Monash University as well as an M.A. in Jewish education from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is currently studying towards his Rabbinic smicha and is a 2017 Stand Up Fellow. Matti is married to Mihal and is Gila and Benji’s abba. Matti is passionate about Israel, Jewish life and learning, leadership, the power of youth and Tikkun Olam. He feels immensely privileged to work with young adults in the Australian Jewish community as they explore and develop their Jewish identities and is committed to educating about Judaism as accessible, relevant, challenging, meaningful, and inspiring. Matti recently finished his first full marathon and might do another if his creaky knees allow it.
