With a passion for travelling, people, Judaism, and humanitarian action, Maya has been serving as JDC‘s (the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee) Senior Program Director for Disaster Relief and Recovery since January 2014. While stationed in the Philippines, Maya was responsible for designing a participatory-led recovery strategy that focused on community-based disaster risk reduction and climate adaptable livelihoods. Following the earthquake in Nepal in April 2015, Maya helped mobilize emergency relief efforts and is now implementing a program for early recovery in the country. Maya also works with JDC's India program, focusing on leadership development, governance, and Jewish community development. As part of a community of international development travelers, both Jewish and non-Jewish, Maya is dedicated to sharing professional knowledge that crosses borders, religions, and cultures. Together with her team at JDC, she applies best practices and program models that provide new opportunities to some of the most vulnerable people. Maya strongly believes in the power of movement - for personal sanity as well as in bringing different communities together. She has been known to randomly break out in dance during leadership workshops and practice yoga in airports across Asia. Bringing her camera everywhere she goes, Maya documents the cultures, people, and lessons she encounters across the globe.
