Neil grew up in San Bernardino, California where he learned the special magic of growing up Jewish in a town without many Jews. An educator at his core, Neil is now the executive director of the Silverlake Independent Jewish Community Center in Los Angeles. Previously, he taught middle school in Los Angeles Unified School District and subsequently led the California regions of PowerMyLearning, an education nonprofit.
Neil is captivated by the power of Jewish text, ritual, and culture to help us lead lives imbued with meaning and purpose. He’s a regular at Queer Talmud Camp and he serves on the board of JQ International, a nonprofit that promotes community and provides services for LGBTQ Jews.
Neil holds a master’s degree in education policy and management from Harvard University and a B.S. in psychology from the University of California, San Diego. He also maintains an active multiple subject California teaching credential.
