Shani was born in Toronto, Canada. After a brief stint in Rochester, NY, Shani and her family moved to Rehovot, Israel. In 2009, she moved to Melbourne, Australia, which she now calls home.
Her involvement in the Jewish community has been varied. She was a social counsellor for international students at the Hebrew University, she participated in the StandWithUs fellowship and ultimately worked there, she was involved with MASA Israel Programs, and was a mentor in Jewish Care's Young Achievers Program. She now volunteers her time at her daughter's school as parent representative (which surprisingly takes up a lot of time!), and as a local Igniter for the ROI alumni in Australia (which has been lots of fun!).
Shani's professional life has also been varied. She worked for the local Aliyah office, was a Compliance Manager for a Forex company, managed a busy timeshare sales office and currently works at a local shule. She is still trying to figure out what she wants to be when she grows up, but don't tell her that she is already grown up!
Shani is passionate about making the world a better place - and there are many ways to do so. She believes that you don't have to set a goal to change the world, you can start with your family, friends and community. Shani is your quintessential Gemini, and has many areas of interests. Her mind is currently preoccupied with questions regarding the goal's of equality, and what differing experiences need to be taken into account. She is interested in human experience, increasing empathy in a world that is lacking, and helping people grow.
In her spare time, which is quite rare, she enjoys being creative, and likes to dabble in photography and painting. She loves to travel, and gets very excited about food.
Shani lives with her husband, a fellow ROIer, their daughter, a future ROIer, and their puppy (a candidate for ROI's mascot).
