Uri grew up in Kibbutz Givat Brenner, where he now lives with his wife, Ayelet, and their daughter, Imri. Uri has a B.A. in political science and communications from the Ben Gurion University of the Negev and was a tank commander in the IDF's armored corps, where he still serves an active reserve duty. Uri spent over seven years working in leading positions in politics and civil society organizations, both in elected and professional positions. He recently took on the role of executive director of Israel Hofsheet, a grassroots movement that strives to create a society that is culturally and religiously pluralistic, protects civil rights, and upholds the principles of democracy and Zionism as put forth in the Declaration of Independence.
