Yuval was born in Jerusalem, Israel.When he was 11 he discovered the guitar and became obsessed with it, playing for hours every day. He majored in music in high school, and after completing his army service as a medic in the Air Force, he went on to major in jazz at the Music Academy in Jerusalem. Yuval co-founded Coolooloosh (2003-2013), a hip hop-funk band that toured extensively in Europe and the U.S. In 2010 he moved to London to for a graduate degree in music at Goldsmiths University and his interest expanded to music production and technology. Returning to Israel in 2013 to be with his mother, who passed away a few months later from cancer, Yuval later co-founded The Slick recording studios in Tel Aviv, where he produces records for independent Israeli artists. The Slick has become a home for dozens of Israeli artists, including Amir Lev, Geva Alon, The Hazelnut Sisters, and many others. Apart from music, Yuval takes part in the family business, working with his father, David Gerstein, who is a sculptor known around the world for his colorful metal cutout sculptures and Judaica works. He recently created interactive projects, such as GRIDI - a large scale musical table designed for intuitive music composition, and Post Post Jerusalem, in which vintage mailboxes were turned into an interactive music and light spectacle.
In 2019 Yuval joined JoyTunes, a start up developing applications for music education. JoyTunes have a successful piano app and are developing a similar app for the guitar, , which Yuval is currently working on,
